IMSH 2027, aka the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare, is hosted every year by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) in a major city in the United States. This healthcare simulation conference is considered one of the largest in the world, and is primarily dedicated to healthcare simulation research and learning which provides “Simulation Champions” to come together to network with peers, learn from experts, and see the latest medical simulation innovations. Participating vendors usually include leading corporations such as and simulators like those Laerdal, Elevate Healthcare, Education Management Solutions, Medical Shipment, SimX, Avkin, TacMed Solutions, WISER, UbiSim, OMS, HTC Vive and many more. IMSH 2027 will occur in New Orleans, Louisiana, from January 23-27th, 2027. As updates become available, more conference information will be added to this HealthySimulation.com page.
Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH)
With over 5,000 members, SSH, aka The Society for Simulation in Healthcare, is the world’s largest organization dedicated to medical simulation. The purpose of SSH is to serve as a global community of practice to enhance the quality of healthcare. The nonprofit’s mission is to serve their members to foster education, professional development, and the advancement of research and innovation; promote the profession of healthcare simulation through standards and ethics; and champion healthcare simulation through advocacy, sharing, facilitating, and collaboration. SSH aims to reduce errors in patient care and enhance clinical performance through the use of simulation.
IMSH Attendance
The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) hosts this event and offers over 250 sessions that encompass interactive and immersive courses and plenary sessions. The IMSH meeting is aligned with the SSHโs mission to โprovide hands-on learning in leading-edge medical simulation trends and technology, networking and collaboration.โ Furthermore, the programs are all peer-reviewed and are selected to serve the needs of novices to experts.
โOverall, SSH has members from 70 countries. Every year for IMSH, there are professionals from more than 60 countries attending IMSH,โ Trenell Crosky, Director of Continuing Education, SSH, said. Without question, IMSH has become the hallmark healthcare simulation education event. No other event in the world can match the incredible number of high-level sessions, learning labs, immersive courses, mainstage presentations, and other learning settings that drive IMSH, In addition to the unmatched education offerings, attendees will be able to level up their simulation game through networking with rockstar instructors, getting a big peek at the future of simulation tech, and scoring fresh ideas to take back to their programs.โ
History of IMSH
The Society for Simulation in Healthcare, formerly the Society for Medical Simulation, was founded in 2004 and renamed in 2006 to attract non-physician healthcare providers using healthcare simulation. The first annual International Meeting on Medical Simulation (IMMS) was held in 1995. In 2007, the IMMS meeting was renamed the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH).
IMSH offers hundreds of industry-leading presentations, cementing the eventโs place as the worldโs premier healthcare simulation education learning event. Those interested in attending do not have to be a member of IMSH to attend. Benefits of attending include session content, multi-disciplinary education, vendor contacts, and hands-on workshops. The event will feature groundbreaking research regarding guidelines in healthcare simulation as well.
IMSH Content Focus
At IMSH meetings, key areas of discussion are often new ideas, leadership development, new processes and research findings, innovative approaches, design strategies, return on investment, and improved communication techniques. As a catalyst for advancement and evolution in healthcare simulation technology, the IMSH brings together and connects industry professionals to learn. The event is considered to be one of the top educational and networking events for the healthcare simulation world, especially for those with interests in IPE. Content categories are targeted for:
- Administrators
- Educators
- Innovators
- Operations Specialists
- Researchers
Ultimately, when deciding on which topics to discuss at each meeting, the IMSH Planning Committee dedicates their time and expertise to creating a leading-edge and memorable experience for attendees. In planning for the event, the committee seeks to ensure that some components differ from year to year. This means introducing new cutting-edge themes that set the framework for all content offerings, inviting dynamic keynote speakers and ensuring that presentations contain innovative learning formats. There will be a Keynote Speaker each day to challenge attendees to expand their perceptions and grow potential for application to healthcare simulation. Various educational opportunities include:
- Immersive Courses
- Accreditation Readiness Workshop
- Certification Preparation Courses
- Panel Presentations
- Workshops
- Hot Topics Presentations
- Research Abstracts
- Poster Presentations
- SimVentors Showcase
IMSH Exhibit Hall
IMSH offers one of the largest healthcare simulation vendor exhibit halls to showcase the latest advancements in healthcare simulation technology and services. Over 100 companies showcase their products and services, with the opportunity to interact with the inventors and specialists from the companies to answer your questions. This is an excellent opportunity for attendees to experience the products through hands-on interactions and determine if they meet your programโs needs.

IMSH Social Events and Networking
Each year, IMSH introduces new social events and networking opportunities, research initiatives (in-progress and complete), technology, and the SimVentors Technology Showcase (featuring the brightest ideas in healthcare simulation).IMSH offers attendees the opportunity to connect with simulationists from around the world to collaborate to advance healthcare simulation. IMSH offers their flagship social event and a highlight of the conference, the Annual Presidentโs Diamond Ball, where award winners, accredited programs, and certified individuals are recognized.
Other networking opportunities include the SimFit 5K Run/Walk/Roll for attendees to exercise their bodies in addition to their minds during the conference. There is an opening session to the exhibit hall that promotes the connection between simulationists and the vendors that create products used in healthcare simulation. Many of the vendors offer special networking opportunities for a Meet and Greet for collaboration.
In support of patient care improvements and professional development, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. This activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) for Virtual IMSH attendees and earn IPCE credits for learning.
Abstract Submission and Registration
The call for Abstracts closes in June 2026, and Registration for IMSH 2027 opens in the Fall 2026. IMSH is a great opportunity to share your work in healthcare simulation and continue your professional development.
