    • Why do we treat non-sterile practice tubing as a single-use consumable?

By focusing on the mechanical utility of the tubing rather than the clinical protocol of “one and done,” we’ve found a way to make our simulation budget stretch for semesters.

Huge shoutout to Emily at CU Anschutz for the inspiration. In my center, I’ve refined the process…

      • Thank you, Elizabeth, for sharing this innovative approach. It’s inspiring to see how rethinking “single-use” assumptions in simulation can meaningfully reduce waste while maintaining educational quality. Initiatives like this really demonstrate how small operational changes can have significant environmental and financial impact. I am a PI for…

        • The suction is a great idea. Thank you for sharing Liz! I have also used a syringe to “blow” out the air in the line for reuse, and leave it to dry for a day before resealing it. In the past, I also have used old school sandwich or bread bags (without the zipper etc) with a heat sealer to create a sealed package to simulate opening a new bag.

            • Our program has an excess of chest and back skins for our high fidelity manikins, so I am looking for other uses for that excess. One solution is to make permanent moulage on each of the skins for certain ailments or injuries. For instance, I have a chest skin that has a large rash painted on for anaphylaxis. What other conditions should…

              • I would suggest shingles and maybe burns. I worked at a school once where they did the burns so students got practice using the Rule of Nine’s. Can you share photos when you’re done?

                • Both great suggestions. I am looking to utilize materials that do not rub off if touched or fade/dry over time.

And yes, when I get it right, I will share photos.

                • Duration of Debriefing

Hi all! As per my understanding on Debriefing, the general rule for Debriefing is to take at least the same amount of time, or double the time spent on simulation. However, I find it challenging, as I feel a good amount of time is needed for Debriefing, especially when learners are novices, as setting time limit is equally important in a…

                • Hello All, I have three cohorts doing VR this semester. I have the ability to cast the scenario on two wall monitors and for that station I would like the students to have an observer questionnaire. Does anyone have a template that I could use for this student experience? Look forward to collaborating with everyone.

TacMed Solutions posted an update 3 months ago

IMSH 2026 was a great opportunity to connect and showcase how TacMed is pushing medical simulation forward. Dr. Dan Irizarry, TacMed’s Chief Medical Officer, highlights how our high-fidelity trauma manikins support realistic, whole-patient training—from bleeding control and partial task skills to advanced procedures and prehospital blood…

                • Hi everyone! I’m Tiffani, one of the moderators for this group. What do you have in store for your learners this semester?

                  • Although I am not currently instructing in Nursing, we are finishing cardiac modules for Paramedic Students. This is the start of ECG interpretation, in addition to the integration of ACLS and PALS algorithms.

                    • @Carriexx55 That is so fun!!! When I worked at a community college, I was the coordinator of a healthcare sciences division, so I had EMTs, paramedics, LPN, RN, etc. It was so fun running the acute MI sim with nursing and paramedic students. The nursing students had the therapeutic communication and medications down, but the paramedics shined… Read more
