    Hello everyone and welcome!

My name is Nate and I’m one of the moderators for this group. To get things kicked off, I thought I’d ask how you all got into nursing simulation. I know that when I went to nursing school, healthcare simulation was not on my radar at all! After over 15 years of serving in various nursing roles at a pediatric hospital,…

    • Hi everyone,

My transition into simulation was what I never knew I needed. Like Nate, simulation was not a thing when I was in nursing school unless you call giving an orange shot because that was the closest thing we had to “skin”. I was nursing faculty at a community college and the sim coordinator retired. My dean wanted me to take over…

      • @TChidume Thank you for sharing! Like you, I feel many of us may have been hesitant at first, but now can’t imagine our lives without simulation. Thank you for your input!

      • Hi all. I first started in the official sim world in 2010 when I entered academia. I was the lab coordinator at that time and learned from one of the best back then- Nancy Rogers. She mentored me in sim and I took over for her when she retired. I was able to attend MFAST I & II (Maryland Faculty Academy for Simulation & Training) with Pam…

Hi everyone! I’m Tiffani, one of the moderators for this group. What do you have in store for your learners this semester?

        • Although I am not currently instructing in Nursing, we are finishing cardiac modules for Paramedic Students. This is the start of ECG interpretation, in addition to the integration of ACLS and PALS algorithms.

          • @Carriexx55 That is so fun!!! When I worked at a community college, I was the coordinator of a healthcare sciences division, so I had EMTs, paramedics, LPN, RN, etc. It was so fun running the acute MI sim with nursing and paramedic students. The nursing students had the therapeutic communication and medications down, but the paramedics shined… Read more

            • @Carriexx55 I would love to hear more about your cardiac modules! I teach ECG interpretation to nursing students and am always looking for new and fun ideas.

Happy Groundhog Day! Since we have gotten into a brand new year I wanted to pose this question: What are your goals for simulation this year? Do you want to build a new program? Do you want to advance an exisiting program? Do you want to build a new scenario or conduct research?

            • Hello All! I am working on changing our supply room to look more like an actual hospital supply room. We have started with wire rack shelving on wheels, stackable bins and color coded sections. I have also started re-packaging our flushes so that students are opening a “new” one each time. So far, so good. Happy new year everyone!

Hi, I work at North Central State College in Ohio. Part of my job is Interdisciplinary Simulation Coordinator. I am looking for opinions on EHR software to use in nursing labs. Currently we have KB Port med carts and use MedSkills/MedsManager. We are looking at possibly upgrading to SimEMR with our existing carts, but I want to explore… Read more

            Hello

Wondering if anyone has purchased the Capsa workstation on wheels and if so, any thoughts.

            Any information is appreciated.

            Thank you,

          • Hello everyone, does anyone here use a 2:1 simulation to clinical hours ratio? If so, how do you justify it with the SBON if at all? Thanks!

            • This is an issue that our college is looking at. There is evidence out there that this ration is best but no specific standard anywhere that addresses this.

              1
              • We are currently at about 15% Sim for clinical replacement. We are working to build more Sim to standardize what students are getting out of their clinical experiences.

Hello! My name is is Holly and I am one of the moderators for this group. I am a nurse educator working primarily in adult health. I lead our simulation experiences with these students and would love to hear how you incorporate sim into your teaching. Do you bring it to the classroom? Do you use virtual sim? Etc. Cant wait to hear what everyone is doing!

                • Hi Holly. My role is nursing simulation and lab coordinator. The faculty try to tie the didactic content to the simulation that they have scheduled. For example, I collaborate with faculty when they are covering diabetes in didactic , then we plan to do a diabetic scenario at that time. This helps the students “connect the dots” between…

Iโ€™ve seen a lot of people looking for a sim tech orientation checklist, so Iโ€™m sharing this free downloadable resource! It includes examples plus a blank template. https://www.ipivs.com/simulation-technician-orientation-checklist
