Abstract:
Accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) represents one of the highest standards of quality review in healthcare simulation. Achieving SSH accreditation demonstrates a simulation program’s commitment to excellence, patient safety, and continuous improvement through rigorous peer review. Accredited simulation centers validate that their simulation-based education, assessment, research, and systems integration activities meet internationally recognized benchmarks. Beyond recognition, SSH accreditation fosters a culture of accountability, strengthens interprofessional collaboration, and ensures clinical learners are engaged in evidence-based educational practices. This presentation by an experienced accreditation reviewer and consultant will explore the tangible and intangible value of accreditation, highlighting the process’s role in advancing institutional credibility, supporting clinical simulation faculty development, and improving learner outcomes. This presentation will also help explore some of the challenges organizations may encounter and how those challenges can be overcome.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the key standards and processes involved in achieving SSH (Society for Simulation in Healthcare) accreditation.
- Analyze the benefits of SSH accreditation for institutions, faculty, and learners engaging with clinical simulation.
- Discuss strategies for leveraging accreditation to enhance medical simulation program growth, sustainability, and quality outcomes.
