Abstract:
This one-hour webinar introduces the new Baby SIMira, from MEDICFX a hyper-realistic neonatal life support manikin purpose-built as a procedural skills trainer for paediatric and neonatal education. Led by Pete Higgins, Medical Advisor to MedicFX, and Julian Bartram, Director of MedicFX, the session explores the clinical reasoning and design philosophy behind a simulator engineered for repetition, realism, and reliability.
A central focus of the webinar is Baby SIMiraโs replaceable airway system, which allows repeated oral and nasal intubation, supraglottic airway use, and ventilation practice without progressive airway degradation. This modular approach enables high-volume training, consistent learner experience, and significantly reduced downtime and replacement costsโaddressing a common limitation of traditional neonatal manikins.
Through demonstration and discussion, the presenters will showcase key skills including airway management with visible chest rise, bag-valve-mask and T-piece ventilation, neonatal CPR during the Golden Minute, umbilical venous access, intraosseous and peripheral IV cannulation, and nasogastric tube placement. Attendees will learn how Baby SIMira supports NBLS, NRP, and neonatal PALS training by prioritising hands-on skill acquisition over electronic complexity, allowing educators to focus on technique, confidence, and muscle memory rather than simulator management.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the key features and functional components of the Baby SIMira neonatal manikin, including its replaceable airway system and integrated procedural training capabilities.
- Demonstrate correct setup and operation of the Baby SIMira manikin for neonatal skills training, including airway management, ventilation, vascular access, and resuscitation practice.
- Describe recommended care, cleaning, component replacement, and storage practices to maintain Baby SIMiraโs performance, realism, and longevity in a simulation environment.
