Abstract:

INACSL, aka the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, launched the Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement program in 2022 to recognize simulation programs that demonstrate high-quality simulation and operationalize the Cornerstone Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice. Endorsement encourages ongoing performance evaluation and improvements within simulation programs and across modalities and learner groups. Simulation programs submit an electronic application with artifacts to provide evidence of how they operationalize the Cornerstone Standards. The self-study process uncovers strengths and opportunities in program structure, facilitator training, simulation design, implementation, and evaluation. Preparing for Endorsement engages simulation staff, tightens the mental model of key performance indicators, and elevates morale through reflection on key steps in the journey to operationalize the Cornerstone Standards. Fifty-four simulation programs have received Endorsement since 2022.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the purpose and benefits of the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement for simulation program development and recognition
  2. Identify the key requirements and criteria needed to successfully pursue the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards Endorsement.
  3. Apply practical strategies to align their simulation programs with endorsement standards
