Tina Hayes

Tina Hayes, MSN, RN, RNC-OB is a nurse with over 20 years of experience in practice and staff development. She is certified in Inpatient Obstetrics and Electronic Fetal Monitoring and is an instructor of Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics. She is also an instructor of BLS and ACLS. She began her career in general medical/surgical nursing and became an obstetrics nurse in 2004. She has held positions as a staff nurse, charge nurse, preceptor, nurse manager, and clinical educator. Hayes became involved in simulation while working as a nurse manager and training staff in postpartum hemorrhage response and drills. The visual enhancement provided by simulation and the benefit of hands-on practice was inspiring. She moved into a full-time position as a simulation educator in 2017 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center where a large educational and simulation center was built in 2019 to support a new Graduate Medical Education program. She served as the obstetric subject matter expert in simulation and participated in the development of a mobile simulation unit at NGHS, making simulation education available to areas throughout northeast Georgia. Hayes moved to Miami, FL in 2022 and currently works as a Simulation Educator at Miami University’s School of Nursing and Health Studies.

Erin Carn-Bennett

Erin Carn-Bennett is a Simulation Nurse Educator for the Douglas Starship Simulation Programme in Auckland, New Zealand. Carn-Bennett has her Masters of Nursing and has an extensive nursing career within pediatric emergency and also nursing management. She is passionate about debriefing and all things simulation. Carn-Bennett is a member of the IPSS board of directors. Carn-Bennett is the lead host of the podcast Sim Nurse NZ.

Dr. Catalina Vanegas Ortiz is a medical specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. She also has a master’s degree in medical education with an emphasis on public health. Dr. Vanegas is a professor of medicine faculty the University of La Sabana, and CEO and founder of Custom Praxis.

Daniel Irizarry

Dr. Dan Irizarry, MD, is Tactical Medical Solutions Senior Medical Advisor. Retiring in 2018, “Dr. Dan” served 26 years in the US Army supporting medical and special operation force (SOF) organizations. Serving as the NATO SOF medical advisor, he designed and launched NATO’s first combat medical simulation center to train SOF medical personnel. In his final military assignment, he helped launch the DoD’s medical simulation acquisition and advanced development office in Orlando, FL. Today, he helps guide TacMed’s research and development efforts to ensure medical and simulation products meet the highest clinical standards. He continues to practice family medicine as the medical director for Kanan Medical, Inc., overseeing the healthcare delivery to over 30K patients through 5 clinics in Central Florida.

With just under two decades of nursing experience, primarily in Pediatric Emergency and Healthcare Innovation and Simulation, Eric Ayers fell in love with the idea of learning through experience. He is the Founder and CEO of emc2, and host of Purpose Empowered Podcast. Ayers is an optimist and thought leader with a passion for inspiring all to reach an understanding of true personal potential. Leveraging his background in healthcare education with his MBA in Healthcare Administration, Ayers’ focus is to add value within organizations by illuminating value within their employees. Kathy Sokol

Kathy Sokol lived most of her adult life in Florida before “retiring” to Las Vegas. She has been a registered nurse for over 30 years and a nurse educator since 2005. Kathy has a masters degree in nursing education and earned Master Instruction certification from Chamberlain University College of Nursing. She set up and managed simulation labs on several campuses throughout the country. Kathy  collaborated on a course called Sim 101 to educate faculty on how to enrich student learning through simulation. In 2016, Kathy and her team did a presentation at IMSH on how to efficiently open a sim lab while saving time and money. Kathy was initiated into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. She was a nominee for the Daisy Faculty Nurse Award. She has been published in RN Magazine, is a regular contributor on LinkedIn and has an adult learning page on Facebook. She is currently working on a book about change. Kathy lives in Las Vegas with her husband. She is a visiting professor at Chamberlain University College of Nursing.
