Sophie and Her Mum can be used to simulate a variety of procedures crucial to the development of core competencies in obstetrics and midwifery.
Designed to bring the highest level of tactile realism to delivery mechanics covering routine births and low-incidence high-risk obstetric emergencies. Built from the ground up with a focus on tactile realism, using proprietary MODEL-med flesh-like material and functional skeletal systems to provide the clinical fidelity needed to drive creation of useful muscle memory.
The proprietary MODEL-med flesh-like material has a realistic corporeal consistency while retaining durability, enabling dynamic stretching of the introitus.
Sophie is a birth weight fetal model with a fully articulated skeletal system, causing her to feel real in the hand and enabling a natural range of motion.
Sophie’s Mum is a hemi-pelvis constructed with MODEL-med material in one-piece around a replica bony pelvis with ischial spines and curve of Carus. The pelvic bone is structural, providing rigidity and a precise fit between maternal and fetal components. The “body” is molded over this pelvic bone in one piece, resulting in a realistic consistency and an introitus that stretches dynamically while exhibiting excellent durability.
The combination of materials and skeletal structures produces a realistic interaction between fetus and maternal pelvis, and provides a highly realistic experience for the learner or clinician. By closely mimicking human anatomy, there is a wide degree of flexibility for the operator to determine and simulate fetal presentation.
In addition to tactile realism, Sophie and Her Mum offers excellent reliability, durability, and longevity. Operation is simple, cleaning is quick, and maintenance is easy. Typical lifespan is 5-7 years with normal care. With proper care, over 10,000 breech deliveries can be performed. Utility can be extended with a straightforward C-section modification to Sophie’s Mum.
